While the EU shut Binance out, the SEC is drafting rules to make US crypto easier

Five days after Binance shut off EU trading over a missed licensing deadline, the SEC signaled it's heading in the opposite direction: making US crypto rules clearer, not tighter.

The three proposals

The SEC is targeting July 2026 for three rulemaking proposals: safe harbors for token offerings, custody and net-capital rules for crypto broker-dealers, and market-structure amendments for crypto trading venues. As of this writing these are target dates for proposed rules, not finalized text, the actual language and comment period are still ahead.

Coinbase's stake in it

Coinbase filed a formal comment in support, consistent with its long-running push for clearer federal crypto rules rather than the current patchwork of state-by-state and case-by-case enforcement.

Why this matters if you use Cresori

Coinbase and Binance are both brokers Cresori connects to directly, and the two stories this month point in opposite directions: the EU tightened access enough to freeze a major exchange's EU operations, while the US is moving toward formalizing rules that could make crypto broker-dealer status clearer and more stable. Nothing here changes how Cresori reads your account today, but rule clarity at the federal level tends to shape which brokers stay easy to connect to over time, and which don't.
