Days after a FINRA fine, tastytrade launches CFTC-regulated prediction markets

Five days after FINRA fined tastytrade $850,000 over payment-for-order-flow failures, the broker shipped something new entirely: CFTC-regulated prediction markets, live in the same account.

What launched

Event contracts on Fed decisions, inflation and jobs prints, VIX, crude oil and crypto are now tradable directly inside a tastytrade account. The infrastructure comes from Apex Fintech Solutions, tastytrade is the first broker live on Apex's turnkey FCM (futures commission merchant) setup, which is what let it stand this up without building its own regulatory infrastructure from scratch.

Why it's a distinct story

This isn't an options or equities feature, it's a new asset class entirely. Prediction markets settle on whether a real-world event happens, not on a security's price movement, and they've been expanding fast under CFTC oversight over the past year as more venues get licensed to offer them.

Why this matters if you use Cresori

tastytrade is one of the brokers Cresori connects to directly. If you start holding prediction-market positions there, that's genuinely new territory: these contracts don't behave like a stock or an option, and attribution and reporting tools built around traditional securities will eventually need a view on how to categorize them. Worth knowing this exists in your account before it shows up as an unfamiliar line item.
