TradeStation's new AI-agent connector isn't free: $10,000 minimum, Claude Pro required

TradeStation Securities released an MCP (Model Context Protocol) connection on January 13, letting users link a trading account to Claude and other third-party AI platforms. The twist: it's not available to everyone who wants it.

The gate

To connect, an account needs at least $10,000 in equity, and the user needs an active Claude Pro subscription. That's a meaningfully different posture from what we'd expect out of a broker chasing adoption numbers: TradeStation is treating AI-agent access as a premium feature, not a growth lever.

What it does

Once linked, Claude can read account data, positions and balances, and draft trade instructions inside TradeStation's own review flow. As with the pattern showing up across the industry, a human still has to approve anything before it's placed, the agent doesn't get standalone execution authority.

Why the gate is interesting

Most consumer software races to remove friction from new features, especially ones built to look good in a press release. TradeStation doing the opposite, actively limiting who can use its AI-agent connector, says something about how it's thinking about risk here: smaller, wealthier, presumably more sophisticated accounts first, everyone else later or never.

Why this matters if you use Cresori

TradeStation isn't one of the seven brokers Cresori connects to today, but the model is worth watching regardless. If your own broker eventually gates AI-agent access behind a minimum balance or a subscription elsewhere, that's a signal about how much liability they think comes with the feature. Read the fine print on what you're paying for and what access it grants, gated features are not necessarily safer ones.
