Alpaca raises $135M, and Kraken's parent company is one of the backers

Back in June we covered Alpaca's API usage growth, traffic driven by AI agents trading through its platform. This is a different kind of Alpaca story: money.

The round

Alpaca closed a $135 million round on July 16, led by Peak XV, bringing its total financing to $435 million. Debt participation came from Payward, Kraken's parent company, and BMO. Payward's involvement is notable on its own, Kraken launched an API Partner Program just days earlier aimed at exactly the kind of integrator Alpaca competes with and serves.

What it's for

Alpaca says the funding goes toward "agent-first brokerage infrastructure" built for tokenized markets. It also joined DTCC's first live tokenized-asset trades in mid-July, a concrete step toward the tokenization push the funding is meant to support.

Why this matters if you use Cresori

Alpaca is one of the brokers Cresori connects to directly. A funding round doesn't change anything about your account today, but the stated direction, tokenized markets, agent-first infrastructure, is worth watching. If Alpaca starts supporting new asset classes, that's new territory Cresori's attribution and reporting would eventually need to handle too.
