IBKR opens agentic AI trading: Claude first, then ChatGPT and Grok

Interactive Brokers spent June rolling out agentic AI trading, letting AI assistants read your account and draft trade instructions on your behalf. If you're an IBKR client using Cresori, here's what actually changed.
The timeline
- June 1 - IBKR launched the first integration, with Claude (Anthropic), via Claude's connector marketplace. Equities and ETFs only, market and limit orders.
- June 22 - ChatGPT and Grok joined, and supported order types expanded to options, futures and futures options. Gemini was still in certification as of this writing.
What the AI can actually do
Link your IBKR account inside the AI platform's connector, using your normal IBKR login. No separate brokerage account, no extra fee. From there the assistant can:
- Check your positions, unrealized P&L, cash balances and buying power
- Pull market data (price snapshots, historical charts)
- Review your past trades and open orders
- Draft a trade instruction from a plain-language request, like "buy 100 shares of AAPL at a limit of $200"
What it can't do
It can't submit an order. Every instruction the assistant drafts lands in a dedicated "AI Instructions" tab on your IBKR Orders and Trades page. You review it, you approve it, and only then does it go anywhere. IBKR also says no API keys or passwords are shared with the AI provider, and nothing is stored on your device. It's an enterprise-level integration, not a shared login.
TradeStation took a different kind of caution back in January: instead of gating the trade, it gated who could connect at all, a $10,000 account minimum and an active Claude Pro subscription. IBKR's approach controls what the agent can do once it's in; TradeStation's controls who gets in to begin with.
Why this matters if you use Cresori
We take the same "AI reads, you approve" approach with your portfolio data. The difference here is scope. IBKR's connectors get read access and draft-trade access for a third-party AI platform, which is a meaningfully bigger surface than a read-only analytics tool touches. If you connect one of these, treat it like any other account-linked integration: know exactly which platform has access, and revoke it the moment you stop using it.
