The SEC's crypto rulemaking gets a name: Regulation Crypto Assets

Back in July we covered the SEC targeting three crypto rulemaking proposals. One of them just landed as actual rule text, while the Senate's own crypto bill stalled until September.

What's in it

The SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, a dedicated offering and trading framework specifically for crypto investment contracts. It follows the joint SEC/CFTC interpretation from earlier this year and gives the July rulemaking push its first concrete shape, a proposal with actual text, not just a stated intention to write one.

Why the timing is notable

The SEC moving on its own rulemaking track while Congress's CLARITY Act sits delayed until mid-September is exactly the split we flagged when covering the Senate delay: agency rules can move faster than legislation, but they also can't settle everything legislation would, like the SEC/CFTC jurisdictional line itself.

Why this matters if you use Cresori

Coinbase and Binance are both brokers Cresori connects to directly. A proposed rule isn't a final one, there's a comment period and more process ahead, but this is the clearest sign yet of what the SEC's actual framework might look like, worth tracking alongside the Senate's slower-moving bill.
